Here are some of our members who were able to attend the 2018 SHPE National Convention and earned some amazing opportunities!
When Maseo Asturias first started college in 2016 he struggled to find a group on campus he could identify with. Once he found SHPE, he saw it as an opportunity to make friends with other Hispanic students and build his professional network. He attended SHPE National Convention for the first time last year and Microsoft was quick to see his potential. After working with them over the summer, he was offered to return as a full time Software Engineer, which also happened to be Maseo’s dream job.
Juan Carlos Oliva has been a member of SHPE since his very first year here at Arizona State. He is now starting his Senior year in Electrical Engineering and couldn’t be anymore prepared thanks to his attendance at last year’s National Convention where he obtained an amazing opportunity with Intel Corporation. Oliva spent his summer as an Undergrad Technical Intern where he learned that hard work doesn’t go unnoticed and that the industry still supports him in his outreach endeavors.
Francisco Heredia is a Senior in Mechanical Engineering who's been involved in SHPE since his sophomore year. Last year he attended his very first SHPE National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, and was able to gain a position at John Deere as a Product Engineering Intern. Through this experience, Francisco was able to ensure his passion for design and now plans to pursue a career in mechanical design.
SHPE de ASU formed back in 1982 and is celebrating 37 years of supporting Hispanics in STEM.
Last year we brought 40 students, and this year we're aiming higher! This opportunity represents the number of students we hope attend the National Convention.
This donation completely covers the registration for one student to attend the National Convention.
