School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) Professor of Practice Campaign

In today’s market, new graduates need to possess an evolving set of skills in order to succeed. They must sort critical objectives, address new priorities, deliver on a timeline and execute at the highest level. For many students, these abilities solidify during their culminating capstone project. Capstones are critical for creating well-prepared graduates and give them the opportunity to solve real-world problems, work on cross-functional teams and hone their core skills.

The Fulton Schools of Engineering is the largest engineering school in the country and home to the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment. Our unique structure brings civil engineering, construction management, construction engineering and environmental engineering together under one umbrella.

To leverage this strength, we have set a goal to establish the best capstone in the nation, partnering with trusted industry allies to catalyze our capstone program and raise $1 million to support an endowed professor of practice position. This individual will have a wealth of practical industry experience and strong mentorship abilities to lead students together.

With your support in this new endeavor, we can build the best and most prepared engineers, builders, makers, designers and innovators in the nation.

Dedicated to engaging students and industry partners through capstone projects each year, the professor of practice will lead the capstone experience and bring together the multiple disciplines represented in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment.

We ask for your support in securing the future of the professorship. Funding for the role will support the salary of the position and offset expenses for the implementation of the capstone program. The ultimate goal is to secure enough funding to bring the professorship to an endowed status.

The professor of practice position comes with a set of distinct objectives:

•100% committed capstone practitioner

• Link capstone projects to current industry needs

• Lead interdisciplinary projects that engage industry trends

• Bolster on-the-job skills

• Act as an in-class liaison between students and industry professionals

• Arrange job site visits for classes and student teams

• Organize mentorship opportunities with working professionals

• Secure funding to support faculty-led projects and teams that engage the community

• Discover innovative ways to combine skills from across the engineering spectrum

• Integrate new industry-specific technologies into the student experience

• Establish a multidisciplinary industry advisory board
