AAMASU's Lecture Series

Many have difficulty establishing a cultural identity, which is an important pillar of success. The Carter G. Woodson lecture series is designed to create a safe space for the community to both explore and develop that identity.

We are the African American Men at ASU (AAMASU), a student organization that strives to improve the recruitment, retention and graduation of African American males at Arizona State University. AAMASU promotes the principles of engagement, empowerment and excellence. We achieve this by providing holistic programming at the university level to enhance the skills of, and connections within, our community.

Along with the lecture series our programming includes:

  • Welcome Black Poetry Explosion
  • Ujima Workshop
  • Fall Leadership Conference
  • Kwanzaa Workshop
  • Career Fair
  • Skate Jam
  • Recognition Ceremony

The Carter G. Woodson lecture series occurs during Black History Month. The Carter G. Woodson lecture series is open to the ASU community. AAMASU invites a national speaker to head this lecture designed to educate, stimulate, and develop the minds of men and women. This lecture series aims to connect African/African American history to contemporary issues.

In the past 12 years our speakers have included:

  • Anthony T Browder
  • Dr. Haki Madhubiti
  • Dr. Molefi Asante
  • Dr. Molefi Asante, Jr.
