Each year, AIGA, the professional association for design at ASU, organizes a spring break trip for graphic design students to travel to a major city during spring break to visit marketing agencies, creative studios, branding studios, and other design-related agencies. In years before, we have traveled to New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and more. Last year, we traveled internationally to London, UK and this year we will travel internationally again, to Toronto, Canada. In order to make the trip affordable for students, we fundraise money through PitchFunder to take care of accommodation costs and local public transportation costs.
The design program at ASU requires an internship after the third year is completed. This spring break trip to Toronto is intended to help students make professional connections and ideally, to earn internships in the city that we visit. Many of the studios we’ve already connected with in planning our tours have expressed interest in taking on interns from our program!
This trip is an invaluable opportunity for students to network and gain insight into the graphic design industry. Students get to see design in a different geological context, ask questions about studios and their process, and tour a variety of agencies. Help support us and our design education outside the classroom!
