The Sidney Poitier New American Film School in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University is dedicated to training the next generation of innovative cinematic storytellers and digital media artists. The school operates across three cities, including at the state-of-the-art ASU Media and Immersive eXperience Center in downtown Mesa, and at the ASU California Center Broadway and Grand locations in downtown Los Angeles. The Poitier Film School's student body comprises almost 1,000 students, nearly half of whom are from underserved and minority populations, and 25% of whom are Hispanic/Latino, which reflects ASU's position as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The Poitier Film School is a testament to the indomitable spirit of Sidney Poitier himself, whose legacy of excellence and barrier-breaking we uphold by disrupting the status quo and embracing students of all backgrounds who seek to learn and create.
