The James Madison Scholarship

The James Madison Scholarship will support a second or third-year student enrolled full time at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University who is a member of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies.

The Scholarship recipient will preferably have:

  • Exhibited a desire to promote awareness of the Federalist Society’s founding principles, and to further their application through his or her actions. Those principles being that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be.
  • Documented financial need.

This Scholarship is the first of its kind, which serves to provide greater opportunity to the next generation of ASU Law Federalist Society members through financial support.

We are asking you to join in to help endow this scholarship so it can live on in perpetuity for future law students committed to the ideals of the Federalist Society. ASU can establish this endowment as soon as a minimum of $25,000 is raised!

Suggested giving levels are indicated on the right side. However, if you do not see an amount that fits your desires, click on any amount and manually enter in your preferred gift amount.

The ASU Law Federalist Society plays an important role in fostering balanced debates on significant legal and policy issues. The "ASU chapter has flourished the last several years, and its leaders are ready to show what they can do on a national scale," said national Federalist Society President Eugene Meyer. "[It] has shown a strong commitment to intellectual rigor and robust debate."

The Scholarship was conceived by Grant H. Frazier, a third-year law student at ASU Law and Symposium Chair. Grant previously served as President of the Federalist Society ASU Law chapter, and now serves as the Chair for the 2019 National Federalist Society Student Symposium to be held at ASU Law March 15-16, 2019.

If you would like to make a multi-year pledge commitment, please contact Terri Burkel at ASU Law at terri.burkel@asu.edu or 480-965-5329. Your total pledge will be added to the campaign and will be reflected in the progress bar.

If $25,000 isn’t raised by June 30, 2023, your gift may be spent in its entirety to provide scholarship awards using the same criteria.
