José Cattani '89 Memorial Scholarship

Classmates of José Cattani '89 have created this scholarship fund to honor José's memory. The scholarship will be awarded to incoming Thunderbird graduate students who are from Latin America to help cover tuition and fees. José's Thunderbird involvement and memory will be remembered in perpetuity in the lives of those students who receive this scholarship in his name.

To commemorate our friend José Cattani '89.

José was from Ecuador and attended Thunderbird in 1988/89. His jovial, friendly, mischievous yet dependable character made him lifetime friends from all corners of the world.

After graduation he became a long term Thunderbird Ambassador in Latin America.

He was also the initiator of our 25 year reunion in May 2019, rekindling old friendships and the magical Thunderbird spirit. Then only four months later, he unexpectedly passed away.

- Marcel Willems '89

Jose came to Thunderbird in a banana boat from Ecuador. He had a scholarship that made it possible for him to study and get his MIM.  After graduation he became the best T-Bird ambassador.  His legacy and spirit should live on with this scholarship. - Fabio Bernal '89

I cannot think of a better embodiment of what Thunderbird stands for but for this incredible giving human being. - Paul Huibers '90

One of the most humble persons I know of - Anuroop Talluri '17

I particularly remember travelling to Spain in the winter of 1989-90 with Jose Don Schutte visiting my parents in Madrid, and then driving up to Pais Basco.  Jose's incredible sense of humour made it a most memorable trip!  I miss you my friend!! - Luis Baralt '90

Jose was warm and kind and a joy to be around. He embodied the spirit of Thunderbird and made my days at Thunderbird extra memorable. - Lisa Bellm '89

Jose was a dreamer, always inspiring with his crazy ideas. He was happiness in two feet. Generous, curious and kind. He was the essence of Thunderbird. May the person who receives the scholarship bring to life his spirit again. - Taide Guajardo Vite '89

Beyond attending at the same time, I was fortunate to work with Jose as members of the TANB during a particularly exciting and difficult time. I always appreciated his humor and good nature. He was of great support to me and others. As was his way. - Stewart Sarkozy-Banoczy '91

One of my best friends at Thunderbird, Jose was a gem - rare, sparkly and precious. Our trip/hike to the Grand Canyon was epic and ended with us getting a helicopter ride back to the cars. So fun. I'll miss you Chamo!! - Steve Landuyt '89

Angel man on earth!  Joyful weekend touring in Quito.  Dancing at a dive bar in Costa Rica.  Pure joy and spirit too big for this planet! - Maria Gesteland '89

Josesito el Piloto, we shared an amazing time together, starting at Thunderbird, but continuing long after that. You have gone way too soon, but now you can shine your light on the world above. - Marcel Willems '89
