Thunderbird Alumni Fund for the Pub
Let’s Toast to the Thunderbird Vision!
The Pub… what did it mean to you and your Thunderbird story? Did you build friendships at the Pub that have lasted a lifetime? Did you write a successful business plan at the Pub? Was it at the Pub that you met the love of your life? Were you at the Pub when you had that informal chat with a professor or an alum who motivated you to follow a rewarding life path? Was the Pub the place where you learned drinking songs in three languages or learned to salsa dance? Was the Pub where you first understood the Thunderbird Mystique?
Be a part of history… and make the Pub part of your ongoing Thunderbird story! Join alumni from around the world in establishing the Pub at the Thunderbird Global Headquarters.
The Thunderbird Pub at our Global Headquarters will continue a beloved Thunderbird tradition – a place where students, staff, faculty, alumni and the local community can build relationships while they eat, drink, connect, innovate or just shoot the breeze.
The Pub at the Downtown Phoenix Global Headquarters will feature a rooftop bar with stunning views of the Valley of the Sun. As a nod to the history of Thunderbird, it will be designed in the spirit of the iconic WWII Thunderbird airfield where our School was founded. As it has for decades, the Pub will feature beers from around the world, as well as the multicultural crowd debating which country has the best brewing techniques.
With your donation, you can leave a personal legacy, honor someone who inspired you, or memorialize a meaningful memory where all T-Birds can see it. Rally your classmates, alumni chapter, or club together and make an even bigger statement on the central destination for T-birds everywhere. To build this unique space with the Thunderbird Mystique, we need you! Give to the Alumni Fund for the Pub today to continue the tradition of the Pub and guarantee that future T-birds will share this important part of our Thunderbird story.

A place for EVERY Thunderbird to call home!
“The Thunderbird Pub of the new Global Headquarters will create an exciting fusion of student life, Thunderbird tradition all in the epicenter of the vibrant community in downtown Phoenix.”
— Sanjeev Khagram, Director General and Dean, Thunderbird School for Global Management
"I think one of the reasons why T-bird is so tight knit is because there is a social aspect to the school. And the pub is at the epicenter of that. So at the center of that whole social bond the students have is the pub, without a gathering place that is social it really does create lifelong bonds, and you keep in touch with these folks for a lifetime."— Mark Smucker '96
"The pub is a meeting place that allows you to think about things other than school. You may be talking about a class in the pub, but my recollection was talking about global issues - challenges outside of school; enjoying that over a drink allows for a more vibrant conversation; it's a matter of students coming together and creating that experience; it was a moment in time to get to know other students and talk about things that were important to us that were outside of the classroom." — Jennifer Fondrevay '91
The Story of the Pub through Time
1971 T-Birds had always gathered in some form of makeshift pub from the beginning of the School’s history, and in 1971 the Pub officially opened in one of the original hangars on the Glendale campus – despite the protests of the administration and the Board of Trustees. Soon, the Pub became essential to the fabric of Thunderbird and Thursday Pub Nights became ground-zero for the Thunderbird Mystique. Through the years Alumni would make the pilgrimage, embracing the “dark and dingy” feel while shooting pool, playing foosball, and dancing to international music.
2011 As part of the student-led Tower Restoration Project, the Pub relocated to the historic Thunderbird Tower, thanks to the generous contributions of alumni worldwide. Students, alumni, and community members could hang out in the relaxed atmosphere of the original Pub, this time in the Tower, a symbolic location of Thunderbird’s origins as an airfield.
2018 When Thunderbird relocated to the interim campus at the Arizona Center, students created their own version of the pub experience – the traveling Pub Night.
"A traveling pub hosted by different student clubs. Pub Night is about creating bounds that will last long past graduation. Thursday night has an electricity to it. You get pumped to be with your Thunderbirds and, for a couple of hours, let the worries of projects, resumes, and meetings melt away."
— Andrew Dzielinski '20
2021 The Pub will be a permanent fixture on the rooftop of the new Global Headquarters. Just 10 minutes from Sky Harbor International Airport, even passing alumni with the tightest connections can drop by for a drink or bite with students and faculty. Thunderbird’s reputation for all things global along with the convenient downtown location and fantastic views will make The Pub a top gathering spot for professionals and friends interested in great conversation and an international vibe.
With your support, T-Birds from all generations will continue to have a place to connect, socialize, make new memories... a place to experience the Thunderbird Mystique, and a place to call home.
