The Pre-Dental Journey isn't an Equal Opportunity Track. F.L.O.S.S. is out to Change That.
Future Leaders of Smiles Scholarship (F.L.O.S.S.) is a scholarship fund designed to aid need-based pre-dental students with all the costs that come with the pursuit of dentistry. Many pre-dental students experience severe financial burden on their journey which can limit their opportunities compared to those who do not have this financial hardship. F.L.O.S.S is a scholarship that will help these students cover these costs and level the pre-dental playing field.
Why is This Important?
Every year, thousands of students pursue a career in dental medicine. While the pre-dental path is academically and time demanding, many are unaware of how financially demanding this path can be as well. In order to apply to dental school, students must take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) and will often purchase test preparation material for this important exam. However, the DAT itself costs $500 and test preparation materials can range anywhere between $300 all the way up to $1700. Additionally, the application process itself costs $251 for the first school and $108 for every additional school with the average dental student applying to approximately 10 schools. Clearly these costs can amount to quite a lot! This cost can often prevent students that do not have the financial means to choose the pre-dental track. This is where F.L.O.S.S comes in.
With your donation, F.L.O.S.S can help these need-based students looking to pursue a career in dentistry! This scholarship is designed to help those students that do not have the proper funding to pay for the cost of these materials and help alleviate some of the burden that these students are facing. These students are often juggling full-time or part-time jobs meanwhile trying to keep up with their academics and volunteering and shadowing experience. This can often cause students to have less of a chance than some of their peers simply due to financials. With your support, these students can be given opportunities that aren't currently available to them and could allow them to concentrate on academics. Every year F.L.O.S.S will select a need-based candidate, and using your donations, help to cover the cost of their test preparation materials, testing, and application fees.
Why Donate?
Pre-dental students are required to wear scrubs when they shadow at dental offices. Your donation could help cover the cost of one pair of scrubs for a student!
When a student applies for dental school. It is $251 for their first school and $108 fore very school thereafter. Your donation would cover the cost of an additional school on their application.
There are many DAT test prep resources available. One of the cheapest options is DATBooster. This donation would pay for a student to have access to this test prep for 100 days!
The DAT is required for all dental school applicants. This generous donation would cover that cost of $499!
