In honor of Dr. Rajan’s tremendous impact and his 40th anniversary at Arizona State University, we ask that you join us in establishing an endowed fellowship in his name - the Subby Rajan Structural Engineering Graduate Fellowship. 

If you ever received support for your graduate degree, you know what a huge difference a fellowship can make. Our goal is to reach an initial $25,000 so that we can endow the graduate fellowship and it will last in perpetuity.

Through an Endowed Fellowship

Over the last four decades, Dr. Subby Rajan has profoundly impacted the academic and professional lives of thousands of ASU civil engineering graduates. His contributions as an outstanding researcher in structural optimization and composite materials are enormous, and nobody has benefitted from his dedication to teaching, mentorship, and advice more than his graduate students.  His classes from the Matrix Methods to Advanced Finite Element Analysis built the foundation for generations of successful graduates in structural mechanics and materials.

Recently the graduate program was nationally ranked by the US News and World Report as the 30th best program in the nation tied with Johns Hopkins University. The program is continuing to grow and the need to support our graduate students has never been greater. With your help, we can meet our goal of raising $25,000 to endow the graduate fellowship, keeping Dr. Rajan’s name forever associated with the ASU civil engineering program while also supporting graduate students well into the future.

Meet Subby

Subramaniam ("Subby") Rajan began his academic career at Arizona State University in Fall 1983. He is presently a professor in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment. His research and teaching interests include the general area of finite element analysis and design optimization. He is the director of Computational Mechanics Lab where algorithms for high-performance computations are developed and implemented. 

Rajan has worked on research projects sponsored by government agencies such as NSF, NASA, FAA, ARO, and FHWA, and private companies and institutions such as Motorola, Honeywell Engines, SRP, Raytheon, Mayo Clinic, etc., working in diverse areas as design optimization, parallel processing, constitutive material modeling, microelectronic packaging, web-based distant learning, impact mitigation, biomechanics and engineering software development. Rajan is the author of several books: "Intermediate Structural Analysis and Design," "Object-Oriented Numerical Methods via C++," and "Finite Elements for Engineers."
