The generous donation by Wayne and Maureen Doran to the ASU Foundation allows for the Doran Community Scholars Program to exist and continue to support its students.
Wayne Doran, an alumnus of Phoenix Union High School District (PUHSD) and ASU, created this program in 1997 to assist first generation high school graduates from PUHSD pursuing higher education at ASU. This program provides students with financial support for 4 years and enriching events to further personal and professional development.
The Senior Trip to Washington, D.C. is a tradition for all seniors in the program, originating from Mr. Doran's life changing trip to D.C. when he was a senior. Every year, seniors attending this trip are expected to fundraise $1,000 each to attend this trip. This is an opportunity for our seniors to celebrate all of their accomplishments.
We'd like to ask for your help in funding our goal in order to make this trip possible for our seniors!
The funds we raise will be used to pay for plane tickets, hotels, transportation, activities, and meals.
During our senior trip, we hope to visit the nation's capitol to experience our government first hand. Additionally, we plan to visit several of D.C.'s museums and landmarks, including ASU's Barrett & O'Connor Washington Center.
Some possible museums we may visit include the Smithsonian Museums, Holocaust Museum, and/or the National Gallery of Art. Possible landmarks can also include the Washington Monument, Arlington Cemetery, and/or Mount Vernon.
With your support, we can meet our goal and experience a life changing trip to D.C. much like our program's founder, Wayne Doran!
Any contribution, big or small, will help us immensely and provide the opportunity for first-generation students like us to travel across the country and explore Washington, D.C.
