Please help us raise $7,500 for the Global Futures Final Mile Fund to support students in the ASU College of Global Futures through the "final mile" of their degree. Fund founders Andrew and Clare Maynard will match dollar for dollar up to $7,500, so you can double your impact!
The ASU Final Mile Fund was established by College of Global Futures Associate Dean Andrew Maynard and his wife Clare to support students in small ways that can have a profound impact as they strive to complete their degrees.
The fund is designed to help students achieve their full potential by removing barriers to success that may seem trivial, but rarely are—helping with the cost of business clothes for instance, or a decent haircut for a crucial interview, financial support for attending a professional conference, networking opportunities, essential support for physical and mental health and well-being, childcare support, access to healthy and nutritious food, and much more besides.
These and many other "final-mile" hurdles are often critical in determining whether our students succeed or not, and we are committed to giving them every possible opportunity to thrive.
Thank you for your support!
ABOUT THE COLLEGE OF GLOBAL FUTURES
In the ASU College of Global Futures we prepare our students to address some of the greatest challenges of our time, from ensuring the social benefits of powerful new technologies and creating just and sustainable futures, to exploring solutions to emerging issues that transcend the limitations of conventional thinking.
Working with some of the world’s foremost experts at the nation’s most innovative university, our degree programs provide our students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive and make positive impacts on a future that will be unlike anything we've experienced in the past.
FROM FUND CO-FOUNDER ANDREW MAYNARD
When I was an undergraduate, I wasn’t a high-achiever. I was one of the last generation of students in the UK to have my university education completely paid for by the British government. If it wasn’t for this, I most likely wouldn’t have gone to college at all.
It’s hard to believe looking back that the career I’ve followed and the impacts I believe my work has had, all depended on an investment in me that was not dependent on what I had achieved, but based on the promise of what I might go on to achieve.
Too often these days, we reward achievement and overlook potential. And yet, some of the most amazing students I’ve worked with don’t reveal just how amazing they are until after they’ve graduated. And many of these only succeeded in their degrees because someone believed in them, or gave them a helping hand when they could so easily have looked past them.
I’m sure this will resonate widely. How many of you can look back and identify a point that, if not for an act of kindness or faith from others, your life would have been very different.
It’s precisely because of this that the Final Mile Fund is so important to myself and my wife. This is not a fund that’s designed to reward high achievers, or to cover the hefty costs of getting a degree. Rather, it’s to provide students with support in small ways that can, nevertheless, mean the difference between them completing their degree or floundering.
And ultimately it’s about small acts that can transform lives and, as a result, the lives of others.
Working every day with our students in the ASU College of Global Futures, I see so much potential to nurture and empower people who, one day, will contribute mightily to the future we aspire to. But only if we give them the breaks they need now to succeed.
Please give generously -- thank you. And you can read more about the fund and why we established it here.
The Final Mile Fund is an endowment fund, which means that students benefit from interest accumulated from the principle. Because of this, the fund will be able to provide a steady stream of support for students for years to come.
