Our Mission This Year!
In Chiang Mai, Thailand, a Monk school is underfunded by their local government and children do not have the necessary resources to receive a quality education. Our group’s goal is to create self-sustainable lesson plans that will expand their educational experience, provide exposure to future opportunities, and inspire creative thinking. In addition, we will construct a playground to promote physical activity and student well-being. Our past volunteering experiences enables us to expand our service in new locations around the world. Other service groups have yet to establish a volunteer project at the Chiang Mai Monk school, so we take pride in being the first organization to offer assistance in the area.
Our Past
We have grown a lot since being founded in 2012. In 2013 we sent our first group of volunteers to Costa Rica where they built retaining walls out of eco-bricks to save rural roads from being washed away by flood waters during monsoon season. Since then we have not only returned to Costa Rica, but have sent ASU volunteers to Guatemala, India and Vietnam. In Guatemala, we worked at a local elementary school laying a concrete foundation for a future playground and repainting the entire school. In India ISD members worked at a rural elementary school implementing teaching techniques to improve the way math and english are taught. Last year we establish a program in Vietnam where we aided in a HIV orphanage as well as built a soccer field at a Buddhist Pagoda.
