Every day, first-year students are overwhelmed by the reality of college. From facing the challenges of living away from home for the first time, fast-paced classes, the uncertainty of the future, and figuring out how to pay for school, students constantly decide whether to stay at ASU or go home and find a new path. Often, these students have no guidance in these decisions.
Through the Peer Mentor program, these students are able to meet one-on-one with those who have walked in their shoes. Receiving specific advice and tailored meetings to reach individual goals, these first-year students are given support and direction in navigating their first year at ASU.Peer Mentors are bridge builders between students, faculty, and student service departments across campus. Their responsibilities include providing structured activities to engage students with each other and foster community, and facilitating academic based workshops to address first year challenges.
By meeting these needs, Peer Mentors shine light on their paths to success as a college student.
