Who We Are The Graphic Design Student Association (GDSA) for Arizona State University is a large campus organization that represents the Graphic Design community as a whole.
What do We Do:
We provide students with countless networking opportunities, intentional programming, and a means to connect with each other and ASU through volunteer, fundraising, and exciting events. Our Annual Graphic Design Trip Another significant purpose of the GDSA is to raise money to promote these events and also help students attend our Annual Graphic Design Trip to a major city in the United States, this year being Seattle, Washington. In previous years, students visited the many professional design firms located in New York and San Francisco. See photographs below for more information from these wonderful past adventures.
Why Seattle?
After researching many other large U.S. cities, our entire class decided that Seattle, Washington, would give us the most valuable experience. Seattle is Washington’s largest city and serves as the region’s major economic, cultural, and educational center, with a particularly supportive community for art and design. The city and its many nationally and internationally acclaimed design firms are constantly developing along with the graphic design profession, keeping up-to-date as technology moves forward. Keep an eye out for updates to our campaign page as we confirm studios that will be hosting visits for our student group.
What We Will Learn
During these trips students have the opportunity to connect with Creative Directors, design professionals, and people in the creative community. These connections lead to internships, job opportunities, and an overall better understanding of the Graphic Design field and all that it has to offer. Students will further strengthen and develop their career path.
Students are exposed to real-world experience, gaining a better understanding as to the various types of design, the differences between small studios and larger corporate firms, and, ultimately, what it means to be a full-fledged, paid, working professional.
Pertinent information students learn from each firm will be passed down to future generations of ASU Graphic Designers and shared with the Phoenix Design Community. By supporting current students, we are giving our home the opportunity to continue to grow stronger.
Why We Need Your Help
As you can understand, traveling to another city has some major expenses. You can help support us through your generous donations that will cover student costs. The final proceeds may help cover lodging and transportation for all attendees. Typically, these students represent the high achievers in our program who want to further develop their educational experience. We will also be considering giving scholarships to a few students who have the most financial need through a formal application process. Sketchbooks are an important part of a graphic designer's daily life so they can jot down their ideas and inspirations. Typically, $10 can compensate students with a sketchbook. Help promote sketching today!
Now a student can purchase a bus pass to ride around Seattle and get to and from each firm. Lead the way to their future!
Students will have the money to explore and be inspired by the Seattle design community. By doing this we can take what we learn from the city and better the Phoenix Design Community.
You are helping a student connect with two different Design firms during this day of travel, where they will form strong relationships with the best studios in Seattle.
With this, you will cover the cost of a student's five day stay in a Seattle hotel. No student wants to be sleepless in Seattle!
