This exciting program is creating the next generation of social entrepreneurs and engineers! Engineering Projects in Community Service at Arizona State University (EPICS High) is an engineering design, service-based learning and social entrepreneurship program for high school and middle school students that incorporates the engineering and human-centered design processes in providing real solutions to real world problems. Thanks to generous industry support, over 30 EPICS schools in the Phoenix area receive access to online, standards-based curricula, training, project funding, engineering mentors, and field trips - at no cost to schools. EPICS High is a tool that helps educators move students from observers in their community to innovators. Past projects have addressed solutions for local as well as global audiences. Examples include: a water filtration system for families in the Philippines, a composting system to transform lunchroom waste to soil for a school garden, a secure storage system for donated bikes, and an app to enhance learning experiences at Lowell Observatory.
At the core of EPICS High is the belief that ALL students can achieve high academic goals, attend college, and become community leaders. Our students aren’t waiting to graduate to make a difference—they are tackling real-world problems today.
